Monsanto Protection Act

Monsanto is seeming more and more like it is the Umbrella Corporation, from the Resident Evil franchise, with how involved it seems to be in making sure its agenda is protected from interference of pesky things such as laws.

We as human beings have the right to know what we are consuming and the right to choose what we eat. A question I would like to hear a legitimate and intelligent answer to would be, what makes it right for a corporation to influence laws/bills to serve their benefit without any regard to the safety of consumers and their right to choose what they consume?

What is the limit to what Monsanto will be allowed to do? What is the purpose behind the judicial system if laws or bills can be passed that prevent the system from being able to have any effect against violations of the law? Will the trend moving forward be that corporations will control the laws?

Monsanto has many variations of modified crops, however; take time to consider that these crops have been designed on a genetic level to consume and infest other crops like a virus, making the next generation of infected crops GMO whether you want it to be or not. Then consider, the ecological impact of millions of bees being killed off  considering that bees are one of the most efficient ways for plants to be pollinated. Even if there were not evidence already showing the destructive nature of GMO crops to our environment, would you want to take the chance of 5 to 10 years from now when you’re sitting in a park and all the beautiful plants and flowers that the bees used to buzz around are gone? I’m not against technology or advancements in technology however; I do believe that the way Monsanto has used this technology is reckless and  their continued experiments will lead to disastrous and irreversible damage to our environment, if it hasn’t already… just food for thought.

Soy… is it good or bad?

Why is it that most products that claim to be healthy or natural contain soy? Is it really the best source of non- animal based proteins? Or is it simply a crop with numerous uses that is made easy and cost efficient by the use of genetic modification?

What do these sources have to say about this versatile and plentiful bean…..

Toxic chemicals used to treat soy and a list of bars to look for and avoid that contain soy.

Food for thought the next time you want to reach for a meal bar or granola bar when you are in a rush or just want a snack.

Hexane may be lurking in the soy protein found in popular food bars

One drawback to researching what goes into making the food that we eat everyday is that it makes you look at the food you are already eating and think “is this really food and should I be eating it?”. I’ve noticed in the last year the task of buying groceries has become more stressful and at times more expensive. It has become frustrating to find food items that don’t have a long list of things you can’t pronounce or things you simply shouldn’t eat because it has no real nutritional value to your body. Take something as simple as saltine crackers, when I hear that I expect something that is crispy, slightly salty and otherwise bland, yet you read the ingredients and it includes High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)… seriously why do crackers need to have HFCS added to it, does it need to be sweet?!

One thing is certain, I will be continuing my research into the common ingredients within  everyday food items to help make better eating decisions and avoid all of the various toxins and GMO’s.
